NOTICES AND DISCLAIMERS
The NCIRC Web site is intended as a resource center for law enforcement practitioners, educators, and researchers involved in the criminal intelligence process. This site contains a collection of links to other Web sites, original content information, model policies and procedures, and other resources. All provided documents, other than those documents found on external Internet sites, should be considered for official use only.
This site is not an intelligence system where active criminal intelligence information is stored or exchanged. Rather, it is a resource center designed to assist a user in developing, managing, and operating a law enforcement criminal intelligence function.
If choosing to correspond through e-mail, the content of all e-mail correspondence together with responses given and the respondent's e-mail address may be retained.
Similar to other Web sites, this site utilizes a standard technology called "cookies" (see explanation below, "What Are Cookies?") and Web server logs to collect information about how this Web site is used. Information gathered through cookies and Web server logs may include the date and time of visits, the pages viewed, time spent at this Web site, and the Web sites visited just before and after using this Web site.
A "cookie" is a very small text document that often includes an anonymous unique identifier. When visiting a Web site, that site's computer asks the user's computer for permission to store this file in a part of the user's hard drive specifically designated for cookies. Each Web site can send its own cookie to the user's browser if the browser's preferences allow it, but (to protect privacy) the user's browser only permits a Web site to access the cookies it has already sent to the user, not the cookies sent to the user by other sites.
Cookies, in conjunction with this Web server's log files, allow this site to calculate the aggregate number of people visiting this Web site and which parts of the site are most popular. This helps in gathering feedback in order to constantly improve this Web site and better serve users. Cookies do not allow this Web site to gather any personal information about a user, and this Web site does not generally store any personal information provided in the user's cookies.
Alliances, partnerships, or other arrangements may be entered into with other government agencies who may be given access to personal information (including a user's name, address, telephone number, and e-mail) for the purpose of providing the user information regarding products and services thought to be of interest to the user.
